Veo 3.1 Is Live on Veo Studio

Glowing video screen showing a rainy neon city street at night, with two smaller panels of the same scene in front and streams of light and sound waves flowing in

Veo 3.1, the newest Veo model from Google DeepMind, is live on Veo Studio. It's the default model in the prompt box on every plan, including the free one, and it costs nothing extra. All three tiers are in the model picker: Veo 3.1, Veo 3.1 Fast and Veo 3.1 Lite.

If you've used Veo 3, the short version is this: same native audio and cinematic quality, plus the controls that were missing. You can lock in a character or product with reference images, grow an 8-second clip into a scene of more than two minutes, and export in 4K.

At a glance

  • Models: Veo 3.1, Veo 3.1 Fast and Veo 3.1 Lite. Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast stay available too.
  • Clips: 4, 6 or 8 seconds, in 16:9 or 9:16, with sound generated alongside the picture.
  • Resolution: 720p and 1080p on every tier, 4K on Veo 3.1 and Veo 3.1 Fast.
  • New controls: up to 3 reference images, first and last frame, and scene extension up to about 148 seconds.
  • Price: no new tier and no upgrade fee. Fast and Lite use fewer credits per second than the full model.

What's new in Veo 3.1

Veo 3 made AI video talk. Veo 3.1 makes it directable. These are the upgrades you'll notice first.

Reference images for consistent characters and products

Add up to three images (a face, a product, an outfit, a visual style) and Veo 3.1 keeps them consistent for the whole clip. In Veo Studio you tag each one in your prompt with @, for example "@[image1] wears @[image2]'s jacket". For ads and recurring characters, this is the feature that saves the most regenerations.

First and last frame

Upload a starting image and an ending image, and Veo 3.1 generates the motion between them, with audio. Use it for transitions, product reveals and before-and-after shots.

Scene extension

A finished clip can now keep going. Each extension adds 7 seconds and picks up from the final frame, with the same world, characters and sound. In Veo Studio you can extend one continuous scene to about 148 seconds.

4K and native vertical video

Veo 3.1 and Veo 3.1 Fast render full 4K (2160p). Vertical 9:16 video is generated natively rather than cropped from a wide frame, so it's ready for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.

Richer sound and better prompt adherence

Dialogue, sound effects and ambience are generated with the video, as they were in Veo 3, but they're richer and more closely synced to the action. Veo 3.1 also follows detailed prompts more closely, especially camera directions and multi-step actions.

Veo 3.1 vs Veo 3.1 Fast vs Veo 3.1 Lite: which should you use?

All three tiers share the same native audio, 4 to 8 second clips and 16:9 or 9:16 output. The difference comes down to quality, speed and credit cost.

TierMax resolutionSpeedCreditsBest for
Veo 3.14KSlowestMost per secondFinal shots, ads, dialogue scenes
Veo 3.1 Fast4KFastFewer per secondMost everyday work, social video, iterating on ideas
Veo 3.1 Lite1080pFastFewest per secondTesting prompts, drafts, B-roll in volume

A simple workflow: try a prompt on Lite, refine it on Fast, then render the keeper on the full Veo 3.1 model at 1080p or 4K. That way most of your credits go into the version you'll actually publish.

What about Veo 4?

Google hasn't announced a Veo 4. As of October 2026, Veo 3.1 is still the newest Veo model, and Veo 3.1 Lite (March 2026) is the most recent addition to the family.

Be careful with sites selling "Veo 4" access today. Google hasn't released a model by that name, so whatever they're running isn't an official Veo 4.

Google's other video model, Gemini Omni, launched in May 2026. It's a separate model that creates and edits video through conversation in the Gemini app, not a new version of Veo. If Google releases a new Veo model, we'll cover it here.
